The Begining!

So I recently got my first full time job, and even though it might not be the most grown up job in the world (I'm a Nanny), I'm begining to feel more like an adult. I am also realizing that keeping in touch with friends and family that are moving all over the United States and beyond is getting more and more difficult. So when my friend Ashley told me that all of her family were setting up blogspots I thought it was a great idea!

I am finally getting a handle of my new job and I am learning to enjoy the joys and stresses of taking care of three very active, very independent kids that are not my own. I think that if I can make it through the year I promised to stay with this family I will be able to survive anything life throws at me, including possibly a classroom full of students, as the idea of teaching junior high history is becomming more and more apealing.

The family I work for live in Lindon, Utah. The parents Dave and Jill are very nice and very down to earth about their children. The do not assume their children are little angels and any problems must be my doing, in fact they seem quite the opposite.... the first day they told me that they were always only a phone call away and would be willing to put the kids back in line if they were not obeying me. The kids are nice and although I know we are going through an adjustment period I feel confident that we will come to a mutual understanding of one another. Jessica is 14, and everything a teenage girl normally is, slightly silly, a little self involved and entirely enamoured by the fact that I am older and a graduate of the university she is dying to attend. MacKay is 10 (almost 11) and while he does suffer from ADHD, and from a lack of respect for me, we do have our days of fun when homework's done and all he wants is to show off for me on one of his video games. Cole, the youngest is 6 and just started first grade. He tries his hardest to keep up with his big brother and gets upset when he is left out of the fun. We have lots of fun together when his brother isn't around and he finally has the chance to act for himself. I feel so honored to help Cole with his homework every day because I get to see his progress with difficult tasks such as learning to read and practicing penmanship. It is amazing how quickley they improve!!!

I am happy with my job because of it's challenges and rewards but I am extremely happy to be on my own for the first time. I am paying my own way, my rent, my groceries, their all me! It is really nice to have a little bit more a month than I am used to, I can afford to have the social life that I never could while I was in College! I think my favorite part of work though is coming home and the end of the day in being done, something that will not be the case if I become a teacher or when I have my own family so I am enjoying it for now! Me time has become my favorite time and I get to read books for fun, and go to bed early, and just enjoy life!

Well that's me for now! I'm excited for this blogspot!!!
