The Arts

The end of June and the beginning of July I flew to LA to spend a week of vacation in the cheapest spot I know... HOME! I'm serious besides the few (maybe three places) I ate out and $10 in gas for Brandee to drive to Disneyland and the airline ticket I didn't have to spend any money! Now don't get thinking that just because my vacation was inexpensive that I didn't do anything fun! I flew in on a Saturday morning and that night my family and I went to see "Oklahoma" at the Glendale Center Theater. I got sick on Sunday, but still spent some time in the evening with friends and we ended up at the park, Brandee and I swinging and the Boys (Anibal, Christian, and Jason) pretending to be macho and run in between us with out getting hit in the head by our swings. I love how we might be 24-25 but we still are entertained by the same games we were when we were 4-5! Monday, after a trip to the doctor my mom and I got lunch, did some outlet shopping (thanks for the clothes mom!!!) and then met up with the rest of the family to see "My Sister's Keeper" which is good and a tearjerker but not as much so as the book (they changed the ending... hope I didn't ruin it for anyone). Let me see... Tuesday was the Getty Museum of Fine Art! I love all the museums in LA and especially since most of them are free except for parking (and we had a coupon so it was entirely free). After the Museum, Brandee Anibal and I headed of with our handy-dandy annual passports to the Happiest Place on Earth! I love putzing around Disneyland this year because with the passes we don't feel like we are wasting money to see the shows or just walk around and look at the sights! I finally went on the carousel in D.C.A. and we watched Fantasmic! and saw Dumbo flying a long the wires during the Fireworks while eating Dole whip (yum) and waiting to go into the enchanted tiki room (Brandee's favorite). I'm glad that I got to go home and remember a little bit why it was so amazing to grow up in a city where you could have so many different experiences in less than a week. I am glad that I grew up in a place that had art museums and lots of theaters, shows and cultural experiences to be had. I'm also glad that I had a family that valued these assets and made sure to take advantage of them.
